13 Animation Short Films You Can’t Say No Too

The reason I haven’t put a number is because in my opinion, that is unfair. There is no such thing as Top 10 or 20 must watch. Every film has its own charm, and beauty and honestly who is anyone to judge a film. I might like a film no one has heard about, because the ‘people’ who decide what will go in the ‘Top 10’ haven’t seen it.

So this is my list of short animation films.

P.s – The order I have put it in has NO relevance to its importance. It’s a random compilation.

My interpretation : Its been a while since I have watched a nice comedy film. Johnny Express is hilarious. To be honest this film appeased my evil side. It was so evil and had a superb ending. It wasn’t like the usual ending.

My interpretation – Watching these short animation films makes you realise that simple ideas make the best films. This is an example of it. Absolutely brilliant, makes my heart happy.

My interpretation : This film makes you believe in magic all over again. It is takes you on a roll coaster of heartwarming adventures .We all at least once in our life time must have tossed a coin in a fountain. But how many times has it actually come true? In this film, the universe actually makes it possible. It gives you the ‘feel’.

3)  Jinxy Jenkins & Lucky Lou

My interpretation – This is one delightful little film. It has no dialogues and shows us how when the right person comes into our lives, they complement our strengths and weakness.

4) The controller

My interpretation :  Another great movie with a plot twist. I dont want to ruin it for you. Go ahead and watch it.

5) The Gift

My interpretation – This made my heart go warm and fuzzy. It gives you a mental representation of being lost and heart broken. It so cutely sketched that you just never want it to end.

6) Borrowed Time

My interpretation HOLY MOTHER  OF GOD. Again another brilliant concept about time and pain. It took Pixar 5 years to create this short film because both both the co directors were busy keeping up with their  demanding schedules working on films such as “Inside Out” and “Brave.”

7) Alma

My interpretation * SPOILER ALERT *  Just kidding. I wouldn’t really do that. Its really cute till. OH MY GOD PLEASSE GO AHEAD AND WATCH IT! I MIGHT SPILL.

8) David

My interpretation – It is one of the cutest short films ever.  You just watch to binge watch them.

9) Destiny

My interpretation – This is short film keeps you hooked. I didnt even blink. It was very well scripted, shoot, edited. The idea was marvellous. This movies reminded me of the quote

“The thing I like most about time is that it’s not real. It’s all in the head. Sure, it’s a useful trick if you wanna meet someone at a specific place in the universe to have tea or coffee. But that’s all it is, a trick. There’s no such thing as the past, it exists only in the memory. There’s no such thing as the future, it exists only in our imagination. If our watches were truly accurate the only thing they would ever say is now.”

-Damien Echols

10) ZERO

My interpretation : What made this film different was the clear and smooth narration throughout the film. The climax was marvellous. It taught me that you should always look at the bright side. Never lose hope. And never lose ‘yourself’ or wallow in self-pity.

Fun fact :

1) It is an Australian stop motion film.

2)What do you get when you combine 15kgs of silicon, 2km of wool, 46 highly enthusiastic filmmakers and 2 years of hard work? …Zero. ( While I was researching I found this quite amusing)

Fun fact : This film starts off with this beautiful quote. Only the end you understand its significance.

“All. in life repeats itself forever,

Young for ay is phantasy alone;

What has happened nowhere,—happened never,—

That has never older grown!”

Forever Young is a musical short movie about aging and youth, about reality and dreams. It shows a magic moment of an old woman. With the melody of her past the emotion of eternal youth fulfilled her. The last time or forever?

My interpretation -I loved it. The concept, the cinematography was just on point.

Fun fact :

1)This short film was shown at over 180 film festivals around the world and garnered the team 59 awards.

2)The Present –was based on a comic strip by Brazilian artist Fabio Coala Cavalcanti.

3)This film also garnered the attention of animation powerhouses Disney Studios and Pixar Animation.
