The New Kind of FreedomDecember 30, 2018
Freedom is what everyone wants — to be able to act and live with freedom. But the only way to get to a place of freedom is through discipline.
That’s an extract from the Forbes article I found online. The reason I was able to find the article online was due to Casey Neistat, one of the internets most famous YouTubers. Also, Casey is one of my favourite YouTubers, mostly due to his offbeat content. He isn’t afraid to be himself.
Casey decided to interview, Jocko Willink, a Navy SEAL that served in the United States on his new book titled, ‘Discipline Equal Freedom’
I had no idea, how two seemingly opposite words ( discipline and freedom) could connect and make sense. For example Jocko Willink says :
If you want financial freedom, you have to have financial discipline. If you want more free time, you have to follow a more disciplined time management system. You also have to have the discipline to say “No” to things that eat up your time with no payback—things like random YouTube videos, click-bait on the internet, and even events that you agree to attend when you know you won’t want to be there.
To me, I think true freedom is when you get your work done, and then you reap the benefits. Not when you procrastinate and waste time instead of doing your work.
Jocko sums up everything in an extremely precise manner :
If you want to transform your life in a positive way, that transformation will not happen by itself. You need to make it happen. You need to do the work. You need to put in the hours, the days, the weeks, the months, and the years. You need to get on the path and stay on the path—the path that leads to the positive transformations, the path that leads to a better you, the path that leads to freedom.
